Africa Aerospace and Defence Expo 2016, which took place from 14 to 18 September in Pretoria, South Africa, attracted over 500 exhibitors from 34 countries, including both major global manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Airbus and local manufacturers. South African company Denel showcased its advanced developments including UAVs, armoured vehicles and air defence systems. The company also showcased its Rooivalk attack helicopters.
Participating companies emphasised on early threat detection systems, and solutions for anti-piracy, sea lane protection and border fortification were showcased.
‘We can safely call AAD 2016 a strategic platform. Africa is a region where the issue of security is very acute, so the exhibition opened up unique opportunities for co-operation,’ said a representative of AKM Group-CZ.
AAD 2016 confirmed South Africa’s role as a centre for defence cooperation and technology development. For AKM Group-CZ, as an international supplier of defence products, participation in the exhibition ended with a series of promising negotiations and new contacts, including with representatives of South Africa.
