IDEX 2019 took place from 17 to 21 February in Abu Dhabi, UAE and became a landmark event for the industry. More than 1,300 companies from 62 countries presented their developments and the number of visitors exceeded 100,000 people. This year’s show included not only defence companies but also representatives of high technology, highlighting the trend towards the introduction of cyber security into the defence sector.
New armoured vehicles and military equipment: The UAE’s Rabdan range of armoured vehicles, developed in cooperation with Turkish manufacturers, made a good impression. This amphibious-type vehicle is designed for combat missions and can be equipped with various weapon systems, making it flexible and multifunctional.
Missile and anti-aircraft systems: Of particular interest were the Patriot and THAAD missile systems, which offer effective defence against possible threats from the air, including ballistic and other types of missiles. Chinese manufacturers presented an interesting Silent Hunter laser system designed to destroy UAVs and other low-observable aerial targets at low altitudes. This technology stood out at the exhibition due to its accuracy and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional air defence systems.
Cybersecurity: Data protection technologies for the defence sector and the threats posed by cyber espionage were hotly debated at IDEX 2019.
‘The Middle East remains a hot spot on the world map, playing a crucial role in today’s geopolitical processes. Tensions are also rising in Eastern Europe. Many countries are reviewing their defence strategies, given these factors, IDEX 2019 has become a good platform for many of the world’s defence and protection players. Our team held a series of successful negotiations here, got acquainted with the novelties in the sphere of defence technologies, and we plan to sign new contracts in the close future,’ – AKM Group-CZ said.
